Psychologists are also perfectly legitimate to see for diagnosis and treatment and can't prescribe, so anyone who goes that route will be getting meds via PCP anyway.
PCPs can prescribe stimulants with far less evidence, so it wouldn't be inappropriate at all for them to do it for someone who has a diagnosis and is actively seeing a psychiatrist.
If someone is working with a legitimate psychiatrist, being on the up and up or whatever, I would think you could communicate with them on this issue and get a PCP to handle your actual prescription.
